Since moving to Langley I have instigated and presented to council and staff several projects that resulted in:

1. Removing and installing a new paved walkway on Grade Crescent from 201 to 203 Streets (2018)
2. Installing a new paved walkway from Grade Crescent to Simonds Elementary School
3. Installing a student crossing on 48 Ave at Simonds Elementary School
4. Making council aware of potential urban wildfire on Nicomekl flood plain
5. Making council aware of potential earthquakes in Langley City
6. Researching and creating signage regarding two historic railways within Langley City, namely the Interurban and the Vancouver Victoria and Eastern Railway (2020 to 2024)
7. Creating the Pleasantdale Creek Salmon Enhancement Project in conjunction with the Dept of Oceans and Fisheries, Nicomekl Enhancement Society (salmon hatchery), H D Stafford school and the Langley City environment committee .

I have also been a working member of the Langley City Citizens Assembly Committee (2025-26)

I am a graduate of Queens University (BSc -1970) and the University of Toronto (MSc - 1973) in geological sciences.

I have authored and co-authored over 40 published articles and papers in journals, magazine and books concerning exploration, computing, history, electrochemistry, environmental and technology topics and am a co-author of the online acid rock drainage course offered by Edumine since 1993. I have also presented papers at various conferences. I am aware of the education of junior companies in regards to meeting standards and their role in the environment and have given presentations to several elementary schools. From 2024 to present, I have co-authored several articles based on the theme “What have you done today that did not involve a mineral ?” and have produced a sticker with this meaning which resonates with everyone. These articles are published in the Canadian Mining Journal and Globe and Mail.

In 1983, I co-founded a software company for developing commercial geochemical programs for use in the exploration and mining industry. In 1999, I founded a high tech battery company (MagPower Systems) to develop the magnesium-air technology for use in commercial products. A subsequent spin-off from this technology led to research and development in zinc electrowinning. I have been involved in and initiated several research and development projects, some of which have led to patents. During this time with the software and technology companies, I was involved in promotions and marketing and appeared on the Dragons Den. I have been involved with several junior mining companies as a CEO, director, and consultant and have also worked for major mining companies. I successfully initiated the campaign in 2005 to induct my former manager (James McDougall) at Falconbridge Nickel Mines into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame and presented him the award in January, 2006. I was a member of the Geoscience Committee of the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC for 33 years and am a member of several professional organizations. In 1997 the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC presented me with the Chris Westerman Award, which is the highest geoscience recognition.
