Six Commitments to Delta
- Protect Strong, Inclusive Public Education - I will defend every student’s right to a safe, welcoming and evidence-based education while supporting Delta’s Justice and Equity Action Plan, SOGI resources and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
- Put Students and Frontline Voices First - I will listen directly to students, families, educators, support staff, unions and PACs before making decisions that affect learning, safety, well-being and working conditions.
- Fight for Sustainable Provincial Funding - I will work with other trustees, school districts, employee groups, PACs and the BC School Trustees Association to advocate for reasonable and predictable funding that reflects rising costs, student needs and staffing realities.
- Strengthen Recruitment and Retention - I will champion a jointly informed workforce strategy that addresses vacancies, workload, workplace safety, training, advancement and the recruitment and retention of teachers, education assistants and support staff.
- Deliver Transparent, Accountable Governance - I will support accessible information, plain-language financial reporting, early public consultation and clear explanations of Board decisions, including their evidence, costs, staffing implications and measurable outcomes.
- Prepare Delta Schools for the Future - I will promote responsible planning for enrolment, facilities, childcare and technology, including safe, ethical and privacy-conscious AI policies, while protecting public services and opposing privatization.
Biography
Roman and his wife, Shante Sidhu, have four children - two currently attending elementary school in Tsawwassen and two attending Langara College. One of their older children graduated from South Delta Secondary School and is studying Journalism, while their eldest, a graduate of Tamanawis Secondary School in Surrey, is pursuing a career in Film Production.
Their extended family has strong ties to Delta schools with nephews attending elementary school in Tsawwassen, a nephew who graduated from a secondary school in North Delta and a niece currently attending secondary school in North Delta.
As a parent and uncle, Roman understands the importance of strong schools, engaged families and a public education system that prepares every student for their important next steps.
Roman brings extensive governance and leadership experience. He previously served as Chair of Tourism Richmond (during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games), Chair of Tourism Sun Peaks, and as a Director on the boards of the BC Hotel Association and the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association. More recently, he served as a Director of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board and as a member of its Finance and Board Governance committees. These roles provided practical experience in financial oversight, policy development, strategic planning, organizational accountability and evidence-based decision-making.
Roman's public education experience includes serving as Chair and Secretary of the Tamanawis Secondary Parent Advisory Council and as Secretary at Boundary Park Elementary, both in Surrey, along with serving as the District PAC representative for both. His recent community involvement includes having volunteered with the 3rd Boundary Bay Cub Scouts, the Deltassist Christmas Hamper Program and currently serving on the board of the South Delta service group, The TOOBs, and on the coordinating committee of the Annual Tsawwassen Sun Festival.
Professionally, Roman has worked in hospitality, real estate and sales leadership. These roles have taught him how to listen to diverse perspectives, build strong relationships, manage resources responsibly and make informed decisions based on evidence.
Roman is running to bring an independent, accountable and community-focused voice to the Delta Board of Education. He believes every student deserves access to safe, inclusive and welcoming schools, strong foundations, meaningful opportunities to succeed and the support needed to thrive. He is committed to responsible financial stewardship, transparent governance and constructive collaboration with families, educators, staff and community partners.
As trustee, Roman will approach decisions without a personal or political agenda, ask thoughtful questions and remain focused on delivering forward-looking public education for every student in Delta.
