Reason for running
Héline has lived in Waterloo now for 6 years, as both a PhD student and working professional. She's seen the best of what we have to offer, and I've also seen the challenges we face. We're facing real problems: the rising cost of living is making it harder for families to get by, our healthcare system is under strain, and the constant looming tariffs threats from Trump are causing economic uncertainty.
As a young professional in this area I have experienced the increased pressures of the cost of living directly. I’ve seen my rent go every year with no signs of slowing, with the dream of one day owning a house slipping further and further away. People are working harder than ever, but they're falling further behind.
As a passionate advocate for the environment, I see the inaction on climate change as a failing to protect the future for Canadians and a failure to create a green economy where Canadian workers can build the technology we need to face the new climate reality. People are losing their homes, their livelihoods and even their lives to wildfires, floods and increasingly extreme weather across the country.
I’ve also witnessed the rise of attacks against our fundamental rights and freedoms. Whether it's increasing access to abortion or protecting the rights of marginalized people, now is the time to keep moving forward not back.
I believe in a better future, one where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, not just survive. That's why I'm running with the NDP. The NDP believes in putting people first, not just the wealthy few. We believe in a Canada where your job is enough to cover your bills, groceries and a decent home. We believe in Canadian health care where you don’t wait, and you don't pay.
I am running to fight for policies that prioritize people over profits, protect the environment, and to put more money in the pockets of the people who need it most.
