Put students at the centre.
I will advocate for decisions that prioritize student achievement, well-being and success, while supporting inclusive learning environments where every student has the opportunity to reach their potential.
Promote transparency and accountability.
I will support open, responsible decision-making and clear communication about how and why important decisions are made. I believe families and taxpayers should be able to understand how public education resources are being used.
Practice responsible financial stewardship.
School districts operate with finite resources and every dollar matters. I will bring my professional financial experience to the Board table and advocate for responsible budgeting, strong oversight and thoughtful allocation of resources to support student success.
Listen to parents, staff and the community.
Meaningful engagement should be more than simply asking for feedback. I will work to ensure the perspectives of parents, educators, support staff, students and community members are heard and considered in Board decision-making.
Support student success and well-being.
I will advocate for a strong focus on foundational learning, including literacy and numeracy, while recognizing the importance of student mental health, belonging and overall well-being.
Build collaborative relationships.
I believe the best outcomes for students come from working together. I will bring a respectful, constructive and solutions-oriented approach to the Board and work collaboratively with trustees, district leadership, staff, families and community partners.
My Commitment to Abbotsford
Abbotsford is our family's home and our community. I am running because I want to contribute my experience, perspective and skills to building a strong, sustainable public education system for the students of today and tomorrow.
I will bring integrity, accountability, financial responsibility and a strong commitment to listening to the role of School Trustee—and I will keep students at the centre of every decision.
Biography
Shannon Rose is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), community volunteer, parent advocate and candidate for Abbotsford School Trustee. She has lived in Abbotsford for more than a decade and is deeply invested in the community and its schools.
With more than 20 years of accounting and financial management experience, Shannon brings a strong background in governance, financial oversight, strategic planning and fiscal stewardship. She currently works in accounting with Wiebe Properties.
Shannon has extensive experience advocating for students and families through her involvement with school communities. She has served as a PAC executive (chair and treasurer) at both the elementary and middle-school levels, and spent six years on the Abbotsford District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) executive, including four years as chair. Through this work, she collaborated closely with the Board of Education, district leadership, including two superintendents, various school administrators and parents from across Abbotsford, gaining a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the families and the school district.
As DPAC Chair, Shannon collaborated with the Abbotsford School District to develop and lead a Parent Night series designed to provide families with timely information, practical resources and access to community expertise on issues affecting our students, including supporting our diverse learners, mental health and well-being and substance abuse. The initiative brought together professionals and community partners, including representatives from Fraser Health and the Abbotsford Police Department, to provide families with informed, relevant and accessible support.
Shannon is also actively involved with Abbotsford Children’s Theatre, where she serves as Treasurer and contributes to many aspects of the organization. Through this work she creates opportunities for young people to build confidence, creativity and community connections through the performing arts. She also volunteers with Literacy Matters Abbotsford, a not-for-profit organization that addresses literacy needs within the city. She previously served in leadership roles with the Sunnyside Children’s Foundation and the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area.
Reason for running
• Student success and well-being within inclusive learning environments
• Transparency and accountability
• Responsible financial stewardship
• Meaningful engagement with parents, staff and the community
I am running for Abbotsford School Trustee because I believe strong public education is one of the most important investments we can make in our community and because I believe students, families, staff and taxpayers deserve thoughtful, accountable leadership.
As a parent of two children in the Abbotsford School District, I have a personal stake in the success of our schools. Over the past nine years, I have been actively involved in PAC leadership, including six years on the Abbotsford District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) executive and four years as DPAC Chair. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work closely with parents, students, educators, support staff, administrators and district leadership and to develop a first-hand understanding of both the strengths of our school system and the challenges facing our schools.
I am also a Chartered Professional Accountant with more than 20 years of accounting and financial management experience. I understand the importance of careful budgeting, strong financial oversight, transparency and making responsible decisions with limited public resources.
I am running because I believe my combination of parent advocacy, community leadership, financial expertise and governance experience can make a meaningful contribution at the Board table.
