Timely action on climate change is imperative to protect our community and is fiscally responsible.

Artificial Intelligence & Data Centres
We need to make sure that AI Data Centres are not part of the list of approved uses in our zoning bylaw. The community voice needs to be heard when we consider these uses.
Support removing heavy polluters/water users from the uses under our zoning bylaw.
Energy-Efficient Buildings
Retrofitting old buildings to improve insulative properties is an effective action against heat challenges and energy use.
Flooding
Stop approvals in areas we know will flood and decide as a community what steps we are going to take and where act to protect infrastructure against sea level rise and flood events related to extreme rainfall.
Green Space
Healthy natural areas, and watersheds support values as diverse as health and wellness, biodiversity, and storm water retention and attenuation.
I will work to create more parks and conservation areas.

We need to increase capacity for secure bike storage and other alternate modes of transportation in multi family dwellings at at destinations.

Urban tree canopy, natural spaces, and improved building insulation are necessary to keep our communities cool. We can also look at heat reflective surfaces for roofing and other building materials.

I have lived in Nanaimo for 19 years, worked for Nanaimo & Area Land Trust (NALT) for 18 years. I will make fiscally responsible decisions through a climate change lens.
Paul has lived in Nanaimo for 19 years. Paul lives with his long term partner Judith and is blessed with a blended and extended family of three daughters, son in-law, four grandchildren and their furry companions. For 18 years he has worked in various roles with the Nanaimo & Area Land Trust where he now serves as executive director. Paul also sits on numerous committees, roundtables and is the Chair of the Board of the Land Trust Alliance of BC, and sits on the Board of the Alliance of Canadian Land Trusts.
To reset and reconnect, Paul enjoys hiking the local trails and occasional forays further afield.
