Biography
Arezo Zarrabian is running for Vancouver City Council with ABC Vancouver.
For more than 19 years, Arezo has worked as a leading analyst at the Vancouver Police Department, her career has provided her with insight into crime data analytics and revealing crime patterns that require development of data-driven solutions. Her roles have varied as senior crime analyst representing the various Vancouver neighbourhoods. For her efforts, she has received three Chief Citations from the VPD and a Chief Commendation; Arezo is one of few civilians earning this recognition.
Arezo believes in the importance and growth of Vancouver’s business community. She has collaborated with several Business Improvement Associations (BIA) and is a strong advocate for small business owners. She has engaged Vancouver business owners who have expressed their frustration with rising vandalism, assaults, and violent shoplifting.
Arezo was the sole analyst for an 18-month violent shoplifting project (BARCODE) which targeted violent prolific organized shoplifters across the city of Vancouver. The success of this project led to several provincial initiatives and the formation of the Retail Crime Task Force. For her efforts, Arezo has been invited to speak at various conferences both at a provincial and international level.
Prior to working at the VPD, Arezo studied Criminology and Political Science at Simon Fraser University (SFU), leading her to discover a passion for community-building. During the course of her studies, she was fortunate to have an internship in Washington DC working for the congressional committee on Homeland Security. This served as an invaluable experience as Arezo learned the ins/outs of government policy.
Outside of work, Arezo is a busy mom to an energetic 7-year-old daughter. She loves going for hikes when time allots, along with her husband (who is a Vancouver small business owner). She is an avid volunteer for organizations within the Community and loves to try new recipes to cook for family and friends.
