Biography

submitted to District of North Vancouver's elections office by the candidate

Herman Mah and his family have called the District of North Vancouver “home” for 25 years. His focus is “Family + Community” so that the District continues to be a great place to live and work.

Herman brings a diverse background to Council. He graduated from UBC with a business degree. Professionally, he oversaw the BCIT downtown campus, administered real estate projects at BC Housing and managed affordable housing for a non-profit.

Herman has volunteered for many community groups for over 40 years. He was Treasurer for the Pemberton Heights Community Association, volunteered on DNV’s Community Services Advisory Committee and coached for North Shore Girls Soccer Club. Herman recently joined the board of Canadian Mental Health Association on the North Shore.

Herman’s work and volunteer experience enables him to be a thoughtful leader who brings a balanced approach to address issues faced by our community while managing the financial issues.

If re-elected, Herman’s priorities include (1) addressing traffic, congestion and infrastructure needs by advocating to senior levels of government for funding for transit, mobility lanes and a new crossing, (2) supporting local economy by streamlining application processes and (3) advancing affordable housing with a strong sense of community. This can be achieved by investing in co-op housing, easing guidelines for coach houses and focusing majority of growth in town centres that are connected with transit.

There is a lot of work ahead for the next Council and, together, I want a bright future for generations to come.
