When my daughters entered the Prince George school system after living abroad in Ethiopia, I realized something important: despite coming from a country with fewer resources, they were academically ahead of many of their peers. That experience opened my eyes to how much student readiness, daily experience, and classroom environment shape learning - and how essential it is for schools to meet students where they are while also challenging those who are ready for more.

Student experience is at the heart of why I’m running. When students feel accepted, understood, and encouraged, they are more willing and able to learn. Excellence doesn’t come from pressure - excellence comes from appropriate challenge, emotional readiness, and a structured environment that helps students feel capable. Learning doesn’t stop at graduation, and our classrooms should help our kids become lifelong learners as they move into adulthood.

Teachers already know how to do their jobs well. What they need is clear, actionable policy that empowers them to teach without unnecessary distraction. The recent decision to ban cell phones in classrooms is a strong example of policy that supports teachers and improves learning conditions.

Technology also plays a growing role in education. My daughter’s university geology class encourages students to take notes by hand because research shows better retention with pen and paper. I believe books and libraries should remain central to learning, and capable reading is essential. AI is arriving quickly in schools, often without clear policy or direction. I believe the board must provide guidance, research, and responsible frameworks so students understand when technology is a tool, and when it becomes a shortcut that undermines learning.

I grew up in Blackburn, where my dad advocated for safe and reliable school bus access for local students. That example taught me the importance of practical, community‑focused service. After living in Ethiopia for 14 years, I want to contribute directly to the community I grew up in by supporting students, teachers, and families through thoughtful, responsible governance.
