Biography
PoCo has been my home for 28 years; we have chosen to live here, to stay here, and to serve and support our community.
I was raised in a very small (tiny!) town of 200 people. I witnessed my parents and grandparents step in many times to serve and support that community. If something was needed - Cub or Guide leaders, swimming instructors, softball coaches, they stepped forward into those roles. Volunteering in my community is second nature for me. It is not about me - it about how I choose to serve.
My career in the for-profit and non-profit world has provided me with the knowledge, experience, and confidence to choose public service. I am experienced in leading budget discussions, creating policies and programs, and establishing good governance practices. As a board leader and board member, I have learned, and demonstrated, that leadership is not about being the loudest voice, or the busiest, or the most colourful.
Servant leadership is about showing up, putting in the effort, and remembering it is not about me - it is about the work I do.
Reason for running
Foundation. I will bring independent, common-sense leadership to Council.
I will bring a new independent voice and perspective to City Council. As board chair of the PoCo Community Foundation and a longtime community volunteer, I have seen firsthand our city’s needs, opportunities, and incredible potential. I have followed City Council closely for years and understand how Council and city staff must work together to get things done. On Council, I will bring balanced decision-making, the knowledge gained through community connections, the energy to move ideas forward, and the experience to work collaboratively. I will bring thoughtful questions, independent thinking, and practical experience - experience built through leading and working with diverse boards, organizations, and people. I am a candidate for Council because I know I can make a meaningful difference for Port Coquitlam.
